Ursula Kincaid (The Fallen)
1. What is your favorite word?
Don’t start with the easy questions, will you? I honestly don’t know. My answer would probably change from day to day or even from moment to moment. ‘Mythology’, that came to mind. Or maybe just ‘mythos’. No, I know. ‘Yearn’. Yeah, that’s it. Love, desire, passion, need, absence, longing, unrequited feelings, all summed up in one little word. Not that it’s an easy one to use in fiction. Yes, I think ‘yearn’ is such a lovely word.
2. What is your least favorite word?
‘Indecisive’, if only because it sums me up. ‘Unfocused’ would be another.
3. What turns you on?
Depends on your definition of ‘turns on’. And if we’re talking sexually here, it also depends on how embarrassed you want to make me. I blush easily, you know. Okay, if you really need to know: long legs; a nice ass; beautiful eyes; an honest smile (I don’t care if it’s crooked or your teeth are bad or what, so long as the smile is genuine, that’s just so important); and a filthy sense of humour.
4. What turns you off?
Ignorance and an unwillingness to confess. Worse, a failure to recognise it.
5. What sound or noise do you love?
Hard rain on a cold window. Only from the inside, though.
6. What sound or noise do you hate?
The morning alarm.
7. What is your favorite curse word?
There are so many, how do I choose? I guess I’ll be predictable and boring and say the one I use the most, ‘fuck’. Although ‘bloody’ and ‘goddamn’ would be close runners-up.
8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
I’m assuming fulltime novelist isn’t a fair answer… I don’t know, songwriting I guess, or is that cheating too, still too close to writing? Basically, I’m tone deaf and terrified of people, especially large groups, so singing is out, and I have no idea how to write music, but I’ll still say that. Music is incredibly important to me – there are so many songs that have just wound their way around my soul over the years, I can’t imagine life without them – so this is a way I could be involved with something I love in a semi-realistic manner.
9. What profession would you absolutely not like to participate in?
Anything violent and anything too restrictive and controlling of me, so I guess I’ll say being part of the armed forces.
10. If Heaven exists what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
Well, I’m a diehard atheist, so I doubt that will happen. And even if it did, I think St. Peter would soon realise that there had been some sort of tremendous clerical error and send me packing to somewhere a lot warmer. But assuming God does indeed exist, then I’d like to hear “I’m sorry.”.
